Most of the remaining temples are well-preserved or restored.
Many of them contain frescoes, carvings, and statues.
Around 4,450 temples were built on the site, but only around 2,230 remain at present.
The site is now protected by UNESCO and remains to be a destination for Buddhist pilgrimage.
